Synopsis

Album Description
Cousteau have had to overcome inherent difficulties since the release of two glorious, critically acclaimed albums ('Cousteau' in 2000 and 'Sirena' in 2002). Towards the end of an American tour, the band found out that their songwriter and creative lynchpin Davey Ray Moore was leaving to do his own thing. Vocalist Liam McKahey recalls a gloomy gathering with guitarist Robin Brown, drummer Craig Vear and bassist Joe Peet in a Boston airport bar, 'We thought it was the end and we were all feeling really emotional. But after a few pints, we'd decided to carry on and do the song writing ourselves. It was sink or swim, and we decided to swim.' While 'Nova Scotia' is undoubtedly a Cousteau record, possessing McKahey's trademark Scott Walker-esque baritone and Robin Brown's distinctive atmospheric lines, it does perhaps signal a subtle shift away from a Bacharach-ian pop sensibility to a rawer, more rock-borne sound. Universal. 2005.

CD Reviews

A really great 3rd album
B. Baboujon | Santa Monica, CA | 08/30/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The band slog on without ravey Davey Moore and what a slog it isn't. This is a really superior album with not a single dud track. A much more cohesive album than Sirena and as good if not, in some ways, better than the first.

It's interesting to compare this album with Davey Moore's solo album given that Moore wrote all of Cousteau's previous material. I have both albums and this one is streets ahead of Mr Moore's effort.

Well done Cousteau!"
Highly underated aural bliss

"This album took me 3 years to buy, mainly because it was'nt available (readily, anyway)in Australia. I just presumed that it probably was'nt up to scratch.Eventually I saw the light! How wrong one can be? How many times can you listen to an album? The 3 Cousteau albums...every track, so good, every album,so good. Why are they not household names?? Moreau,Cousteau....Who cares! Brilliant."
