CD Reviews

Great material but not much new

"So yeah, as far as Cowboy Bebop material goes, there's already been 3 OSTs, the movie soundtrack, the 4-disc box set, the remix CD, Vitaminless, Cowgirl Ed and Ask DNA. Now there's this one. Nine of the 12 songs from this can be found on one of those other records. The three that aren't are nothing particularly new and nothing to write home about. "Diamonds" is ballady track that's a bit over the top, and the other two newbies are filler compared to the rest of the album.

Moreover, the pop vocal songs from the movie OST/Ask DNA ("No Reply" and "Gotta Knock a Little Harder" and "Cosmic Dare," great songs all) don't quite mesh with the more jazzy selections from the show. It's a rather weird selection. So while the content of this album is terrific, Bebop fans with many of the aforementioned releases already in their clutches don't really need it."
A most excellent addition to the Bebop mythology

"I am a Cowboy Bebop fanatic. So, when I heard there was allegedly a CD that includes the music that will be used in the video game - set to be released in June of 05 - including some new tracks written especially for it - I had to have it.

The CD is wonderful (like a Bebop fan would expect any less from Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts by now with their existing body of work) and provides a few changes of pace that might surprise and the softest vocals I've ever heard from Steve Conte. However, a real treasure is the booklet with the CD which chronicles the career of The Seatbelts with mock up album covers and one song noting that it was from a short film about a dog named Ein who meets up with a European lady...hmm...now that's something I'd like to see.

Point is, even though all of the tracks except for three are tracks you've heard before - it is an excellent compilation and some of the new ones might surprise you. I'm not a big gamer, but I know I have to try this game at least once when it comes out."
