CD ReviewsBetter late then never C. Rinaldo | 01/16/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "I had the only album by the Crickets on Coral, post-Buddy Holly's death, "In Style with the Crickets", which was issued in late 1960. I rescued it from a bargain bin in a Syracuse drug store in 1962. Unfortunately, it was stolen from my house during a break-in in 1966 (along with Little Richard's and Lonnie Mack's first LPs...sigh). More than twenty years later, Charly Records issued the album plus some extra cuts. A few years after that, this CD was issued on Bear Family Records with all of the available songs from the Brunswick/Coral sessions. OK, enough background - it has taken me this long (January, 2008) to get around to buying the Bear CD, which was my error. In short, to any fans of Holly or rockabilly who have not heard this music, you should pick it up ASAP. It is a superb collection by a group that never really made it on the USA charts. Every cut is well produced and executed. Check out the original "I Fought the Law" for the "zip gun" juvenile delinquent lyric that was watered down to a less threatening "six gun" lyric by the Bobby Fuller Four. "Loves Made a Fool of You", "Deborah", and "When You Ask About Love" are some of the best songs of the era. The Brits knew this and charted several of these. Enough said."
