Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

"The Crusaders are virtually synonymous with Jazz-Funk and they produced some of the best examples of the genre over a period of years and releases.Having owned some of their music on vinyl which has now been consigned to storage, I thought that buying this - presumably a selection of their best cuts - would bring back the music I had enjoyed so much in the past. But even with the inclusion of the epocal "Street Life" it was not to be so, I'm afraid. The music seems a little limited and lacking in sophistication with a far rockier feel than I remember. Perhaps the selection didn't do this band justice or perhaps my memory of them was a little too generous. Some things are better left in the past. Perhaps this is one of them.I could say that buying this CD for "Street Life" would be worthwhile but it would probably be better to buy the original "Street Life" album on CD for that as it has other good tracks on it.All in all then something of a disappointment for me and not recommended."
A great collection

"i have dug the Crusaders for a really long time.there music has always got my full attention.as i got older i went back&heard what they were doing in the early 70's&before that&i was delighted at there depth&vibe.while i like some of there material after the mid 70's especially chain reaction&the street life album i dig there early 70's stuff far better.it has more juice to it.it is more rawer.i feel all of the musicians that are associated with this group are great.they have there own sound&feel.check this out.for lovers of Jazz&Funk&a few other styles in between."

"not sure why this collection was put together. The Crusaders have always been my favorite jazz band and their music is always guaranteed to put a hop in your step. that said this collection always leaves me wanting to hear 'Scratch' or 'Pass The Plate' or 'Live at the Lighthouse'. In other words there are no bad Crusaders music collection but there are others I would rather hear the this one."
