"The price tag is not very welcoming, but Ivor Bolton and the St. James's Baroque Players give an intense, no-nonsense rendering with a rather sturdy energy. If you don't like your Bach too sweet or fussy, this is for you. The only complaint here would be the weak sound of the few strings. Original instruments, but no mannerisms, not too fast, not too slowly played. I've got this almost 15 years now and have never heard any better - I doubt it is possible to improve these performances!"

"This is volume 1 of concertos for harpsicord & strings. Ivor Bolton with the St.James's Baroque Players flawlessly performs Concertos 1,4,5,&6 and takes Bach to an ethereal level that truly represents his best work. Both volumes are out of stock and rather hard to come by. They are, however, well worth tracking down."
