GOOD MUSIC ... BUT NOT MY FAVORITE VOCAL STYLE

"I risked it - I bought this one cold. The music: late-90's palatable electronica with acid jazz and triphop influence. The music itself can be very enjoyable at times, especially on the wonderful "Hallelujah" and "Joy." I'd describe Czech's music as a skillful reorganization of the sounds and techniques already established in the genre. Then comes the downer for me ...It's her VOICE that irritates me. BUT!! ... I know that some other people, e.g., fans of Swing Out Sister, would probably love her style! It's very polished but contains a certain ~ smooth ~ urban ~ soul ~ jazz quality that sounds a little pretentious to me. (I don't know how else to describe it! For contrast: I DO like the soul of Alison Moyet (from Yaz/oo) and the indiosyncratic vocals of Nicolette (from Massive Attack))...So, if you LIKE electronic music and you LIKE vocals like those from Swing Out Sister ... or even Stereolab or maybe Pizzacato Five ... you may still want to give this disc a try. (I don't care for the vocals with any of them!) Otherwise, if you're like me, be cautious. I give this just one star b/c I really can't listen to it, even as background, without usually being irritated when the lyrics kick in."
Well worth it...

"I stumbled upon this CD by accident while reviewing music. I can safely say this CD is what turned me on to electronic music. Since then I've found better, but this CD still remains a favorite of mine. Unlike another review I love the vocals, it was part of what attracted me to this album. I just wish I knew where to find more information about them."
