"This cd represents the felicitous joining of two institutions dedicated to the furthering of first-rate electronic dance music. First, there is the ongoing and highly commendable effort by Topaz Records to bring some of Europe's finest trance and progressive house music to an American audience; and second, there is Eve Records, a small English label which releases (almost) exclusively the work of one of Europe's most creative and venerable trance artists, Pablo Gargano. The Italian-born Gargano has composed a series of over forty sequentially-numbered 12" vinyl records under the pseudonym of "Eve" over the past half decade; many of these tracks have been featured regularly in mixes produced by trance dj's throughout Europe. Practically all of the tracks included here, however, will be new to American listeners (a previous mix of "Trance in Saigon" appeared on Paul Oakenfold's Oslo Global Underground mix). He has produced a couple of full-length compilation cd's of his Eve releases previously, but these were hard to find and very likely are out of press currently.Thanks to Topaz Records, however, eight tracks by Gargano (plus two others by Sourmash and David Craig) have been mixed here by DJ Grover and may now be enjoyed anew by trance fans in this country. The sound here is uptempo, intense, sometimes uplifting and sometimes with a tinge of psy-trance or acid tweakiness, but never, ever cheesy or trite. Gargano is definitely one of the most creative individuals within the ever-growing world of electronic music, and this cd showcases his work masterfully. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the track list provided above by Amazon is from a different Topaz release, not that of "An Evening Of Trance." Here's hoping that the error is corrected soon."
