The Houston-born, Brooklyn-bred performer kicks off his album with "La Negra Tomasa," and his zippy cumbia take on the Cuban classic (which was also one of Los Caifanes' earliest hits) would sound right at home on any of the Kings' past efforts. Kane also peppers his album with tender R&B ballads, another of the Kumbia Kings' calling cards. The best of the bunch is "Mia," co-written by Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough. To maximize crossover appeal, the song is featured in English, Spanish, and cumbia versions, a trick often used by--you guessed it--the Kumbia Kings. Kane is a confident, charismatic singer, but it's a mystery why he chose to venture out on his own when his sound is still so clearly tied to his past musical life. --Joey Guerra« less

CD Reviews
Great CD

"This is a great cd, I like most of the songs on this album. The only draw back on the album is that one song is repreated twice, the other is repeated 3 times. Like La Negra Tomasa you only need one version of that song, and then Mia on is original the other is cumbia mix, and then again in english. I mean this song is good but not that good for me to hear it a million times. So in actuality, this cd only really contains 10 original songs, he could have at least made a few more. All in all though it is a great cd, and you will listen to it quite a few times. I do believe that K1 album is better though."
Must have CD

"A great CD from a great talent! I must admit I snapped up this CD mostly for "La Negra Tomasa", but I was definitely not disappointed with the rest of the songs! A must-have for your collection; there's not a bad song in the bunch. Love the reggae influence, the Spanish, and the accordion! What an awesome mix!"
Saying the truth

"I think that even if DJ Kane was a former KK member he still has his own style in music. It is not anything like KK but in a good way. DJ Kane is a great musician and needs a little credit in that. He has a great style in music very different from Mr. Quintanilla. Although i might add A.B is also a great artist."

"DJ Kane has got talent!! I admit that I really bought this CD since I was a fan of the Kumbia Kings but DJ Kane really knows what he's doing. I don't think that there is even a bad track on this CD. He's mixed alot of different rhythms on this album...cumbia, reggae, r&b and he also has come beautiful ballads. If you're a fan of DJ Kane, the Kumbia Kings or just of great music, then this is definitely a CD that you will want to pick up!!!"
