CD Reviews

Micro Manipulates The Decks for the 10th Time!!!!!!
ShoKK | Mid-west, USA | 09/03/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I personally don't care if you have ever heard of Micro in your lifetime, or if you haven't even listened to an electronic CD, everybody needs this disk in their collection.

Micro's newest accomplishment, "Out Through the Input" is simply amazing, and sets new standards in the genre!! I do admit that Micro decided to take his style down a few notches from his usual energy filled Tech/Progressive Trance to a new end of Tech/Progressive. At first I seemed to become a bit dissappointed and his new twist, but that didn't last for long at all. Everything from Micro's skills on the decks, to the programing of the CD is flawless. Below is a breakdown of the disk track by track.

Track 1 "Primer-The Silver Lining" is a signature bass-driven melodic track that sounds very similar to the way Micro likes to begin every one of his journeys with.

Track 2 "Radical Noiz feat. Adeva-In & Out (E-Craig Remix)" has got to be the best example to explain the hard, driving, energetic style that Micro has been known for, for years. This track displays a ripping, agressive bassline and vocals from a late 80's track named the same. Packed with energy, but not the usual Micro energy.

Track 3 "Sonorous-Pronotonic" is probably on my list for favorite tracks on the disk. This track displays wonderful techy melodies with some beautiful foreign vocals.

Track 4 "Marcela Woods-Time's Running Out (No-Tech Trance Mix) kind of reminds me of the track by "Rank 1" on his last release. It starts off with a dirty, bassy sound then drops. The sound fades back in quickly and loudly.

Track 5 "Katana-Tribal Shock" is exactly that. A total beat driven track with minimal melodies, and tons of drum breaks.

Track 6 "Micro-Penetrate" is Micro's pride and joy of 2004. If you have ever heard any other Micro originals this track definitly takes the energy level down a notch. No vocals, which is a weird step for Micro. But yet he still found a way to put a catchy melody into the song.

Track 7 "Matt Darey & Marcela Woods-U Shine On (Steve Murano Remix)", when I saw a track by Matt Darey was to be on the disk, I could only get excited. . .and this song doesn't let you down. It starts like any other on the CD with a strong, dirty bassline, and a dark, techy melody in the background. Then Marcela Woods starts singing a strangly hipnotic chorus, then it seems to rewind to a stop leaving only an electronic, blurred beat for a few seconds, then the every element of the song resumes at once! Great song.

Track 8 "Shawn Xzavier-Bound" is a progressive track that contains most every element of Trance. A piano, choppy-techy melodies, and loud "horns", but yet this track is very "pretty" and "melodic".

Track 9 "Ron Vanden Beuken-Keep on Movin" in my opinion is the last "lift-me-up" track that Micro throws down so that he may transition into the next two tracks. Contains an uplifting beat and vocal break.

Track 10 "Matt Hardwick vs. Smith & Pledger-Day One (Above and Beyond Mix) and Track 12 "Scott Mac pres. Decompression & Al Gibson-Twilight (Jelle Faber Remix) are in a sence "Tiestoisque". While Track 10 is a bit harder containing more "Techy" sounds with some twangy breaks, Track 12 is always building, and gaining energy.

Track 11 "Maxum Deejays-Eternal Flame (Micro Remix) is another one in the bag of Micro favorites. Sampling from The Bangles this track is hot!!!! Throughout this track you will hear "Is this burning. . ." as a tease, then during the break "Is this burning, an eternal flame"! If this is a remix, I don't want to hear the original, Micro has done a wonderful job.

Track 13 "Ralph and Ryan-Cold Feet" really can't be anything but great seeing as one of the greatest names in Trance, Dave Ralph and Joshua Ryan produced this one together. The easiest way to describe this track is to tell you that Ryan has the most influence on the actual music, contributing his ever so famous dark, deep, hard, hypnotic sounds, while Ralph added a nice touch giving some vocals to the track!!!

That is the end of the audio CD, but there is more. . .a DVD containing a 70+ minute mix(the same as the audio CD) with visuals and some little stories set in the 50's to accompany the music. A 10+ minute interview with the Meistro himself, talking about the disk and his life. The music video for Micro's newest single "Penetrate". A Dj Micro Biography, and some web links.

All in all, I have clearly stated that this disk has multiple elements in its favor! This disk contains something for everybody. It would be a great thing to buy this CD. Treat yourself to one of the greatest disks of 2004."

"Wow! I must say Im very impressed because usually dj mixes gradually decrease in quality as the years go by but this one is a top notch cd all the way.I have to admit I really thought Micro had sold out when he came out with My Frequency,a very mediocre cd with very little excitement. In my opinion this has more of the classic Micro/Tech Mix sound with less breaks, thank God!I like some breaks but they get real old, real fast. This album is perfectly mixed,I honestly dont see any flaws and I rate it on up there with some of my all time favorite trance mixes such as those of George Acosta and Ferry Corsten. This is Micro's 2nd best album to date(next to Tech Mix 2.0) ...Highly recommended to any electronic music lover!

Pretty Good

"It isn't anything special, and if it were just the music alone, I would probably give it a 3, but because it comes with the DVD too, it gets a 4. Micro can do so much better though, which he has proved in the past time and time again.

My Favorite tracks on this album would have to be The Silver Lining, Time's Running Out, Penetrate (DJ Micro original), and Bound. Other than the rest of the songs are mediocre at best, except for In and Out which is probably the worst piece of crap I've ever heard in my life.

If you are a big Micro fan like I am, than I highly reccomend getting this album because the DVD add on is great. Even if you don't know Micro at least still give it a try, because there are some really good songs on here, they just get caught in between a larger amount of mediocre ones."
