"**FOR ALL OVER REVIEW SEE CAPITAL LETTERS BELOW**
1.The original track starts with a series of jumbled up hi hats and snares and as this continues it builds up to a climax point.This initial part is really of no use to the dj as it is so confusing and off beat.The single beat, and bass enter abruptly and progress, then a misty smooth synth line enters and fades as the triplets of snares enter with a crash cymbal.The mix picks up speed with the addition of an open hi hats sequence and the hint of another bass instrument.
The peripheral cycle of loops and synths appears, at first softly then gets louder and denser as the bass and drums disappear for a while...Then it explodes into the first of two themes still using this simple chord and synth sequence(very much like trancy vacuum cleaners).This fades and the drums simplify a bit.The main theme pokes its nose through the door for a short while as the drums and bass get less and less.Crash cymbals lead to the inevitable breakdown...the last crash:
The velvet soft arpeggios of the lead synth hover momentarily as they take centre stage.All alone its ethereal beauty and amazing sound maximise(apart from the misty hook in the background).Freshly used soft instruments are played to contrast with the first theme,and then the softly whispered vocals drift around when the string bass is introduced.This-mecca of all themes is left to develop before the half volume drums evolve and fuse together all parts in a hot, steamy atmosphere filled with thrust and ignition.Drums fade-which makes way for the climax...
The track explodes into the main theme/melody once again using the velvet soft pad,all drums,bass,hooks etc flaring up.
The chord sequence and accompanying bassline hits its climax then fades,and alternative pads are introduced to fill the gap between themes.The vacuum cleaners re-enter slowly,then explode, before finally dying away.The track finishes with a flurry of whispered vocals and finally,jumbled drums.
2.The Filterhedz remix is amazing aswell.It keeps all melodic elements of the velvet pad and progresses through the drums well.Nice remix.
3.The last track is different from the overall feel of the cd yet some may like it.
THE ORIGINAL TRACK IS VERY SPECIAL IN TERMS OF THE PRODUCTION QUALITY AND ORIGINALITY.ITS SLIGHTLY OFFBEAT SEQUENCE OF DRUMS AND BASS IS INTRIGUING,YET CONFUSING FOR SOME LISTENERS.HOWEVER,I AM SURE IT HAS CARVED UP THE DANCE FLOOR WHENEVER IT HAS BEEN PLAYED,AS THE TRACK HAS CERTAIN QUALITIES UNIQUE TO ITSELF:-HYPNOTIC DRUM SEQUENCE,TWO COMPLETELY FRESH AND INSPIRED FLEETS OF INSTRUMENTS FOR DIFFERENT STAGES OF THE TRACK, OBSESSIVE QUALITIES HENCE THE TITLE NAME - SUCH AS THE EVER REPEATING MELODY LINE - DESIGNED TO DRIVE ITSELF INTO THE BRAINS OF ITS LISTENERS.THIS PIECE OF MUSIC EVOLVES THROUGH MOODS AND STAGES LIKE NO OTHER.A MUST FOR ALL PROG HOUSE DJs AS TWO WORLD CLASS PRODUCERS MERGE TO FORM A TRULY SPECTACULAR TRACK."
Groovy but limited

"I'm a great fan of Tiësto's style(s), but the fact that he keeps putting this single track (and the numerous remixes that have been made of it since it first came out) in almost all of his mixes truly spoils parts of some of his great sets for me. The record consists of a very steady, slow buildup, and seems to become more and more intense as it progresses, not with synthlines, but rather with a groovy and (I admit) cool rhythm. When the synth finally does start coming in, it's warm and wide like you would expect of a Tiësto record. Meanwhile a faint whispering voice keeps repeating the word 'Obsession' over and over.. so far so good you'd say.But then the record continues. And continues. No new elements are brought in. The synths never seem to pick up a melody of any kind, all that happens is some knob-twisting (the synthline seems to get wider and wider, then sharper, then smoother, etc.) And the voice, still repeating the single word 'Obsession' starts driving me mad.Overall I find this a truly a strange record. The production quality puts it among the best records of the previous years. From the great combination of JXL and Tiesto's talents emerged a track that is both groovy and warm. I know it's caused havoc on quite a few dancefloors. But all the same, the *complete* lack of variety makes it a boring track for home listeners."
