"Daniel Balavoine is indeed not your typical singer. He is a maverick of changing styles, but one thing that stays consistent are his strong melodies and profound lyrics. This title is the second volume of his greatest hits, the majority of which are set in the 80's. One hears a big change in orchestration from the first volume of mostly 70's songs. Here Balavoine fuses ethnic percussions and vocals with sophisticated electronic textures, yet still manages to generate a great rock sound. Some songs resemble electronic new wave classics (Eurythmics or Soft Cell) while others are more Rick Springfield in spirit. Yet some are just simple songs to chill out to. This is a great cd for those who want to be introduced to modern French pop, and a majority of the songs in this cd are part of the essential cannon of hits remembered by most young Frenchmen today. One wonders how his music would change had he not died tragically in a helicopter accident in 1986."
