"This is an excellent set of songs from San Francisco-based songwriter Danny Scherr, who wrote "Maybe You're Gone"--which was widely praised as one of the better songs from the soundtrack to "The Girl Next Door" but inexplicably left off of the soundtrack CD.



As did that song, many of those on this CD explore the themes failed love and troubled relationships, employing poignant and at times heart-breaking lyrics. The songs vary between 1970s power pop and Nick Drake-esque acoustic, with often beautiful melodies. I'd probably pick "Too Far Down" and "Don't Know Why" as my favorites on the CD, but it's difficult to choose, as there is really no filler and the quality of songs is universally strong.



When you hear such a good CD from an unknown artist like this, it really makes you think something is seriously wrong with the music industry: how can great singer/songwriters like Danny Scherr labor in obscurity when so many inferior acts get tons of media hype and become famous mainly for one or two mediocre hits?



In any case, what a great debut CD! I hope more people discover Mr. Scherr and give him the audience he deserves."
