CD ReviewsBrilliant, imaginative, swinging 06/12/1998 (4 out of 5 stars) "Darrell Grant, piano - Wallace Roney, trumpet - Christian McBride, bass - Brian Blade, drumsThese four fellows tear up the tracks on a program of originals and standards. Mr. Grant's arrangements of standards are original and engaging (the deft mixture of funky and swing on "What Is This Thing", the straightforward simplicity of "Blue In Green" and "For Heaven's Sake"), and his own compositions swing hard (I heard the title cut on a jazz radio station and I HAD to buy the album, and soon). Darrell is next in a line of brilliant pianists, continuing the musical innovations of such artists as Herbie Hancock and Kenny Kirkland. And the rhythm section is full of fire. These cats can play! This is an album to dig, no doubt." Beautiful. An artist who obviously knows his stuff. J. Gary | 06/12/1998 (5 out of 5 stars) "A real find. Grant knows piano and it shows. With Christian McBride on Bass; Wallace Roney, trumpet; Brian Blade, drums. Peter Watrous of The New York Times put this one on his Top Ten List in 1994. Grant's a great composer, but also takes off with numbers like Cole Porter's "What is This Thing Called Love?""
