CD ReviewsWhen Grusin was GREAT.. Charles H. Levenson | new jersey | 06/17/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "This album came out in the 1980s,when"smooth"jazz was hot..Grusin,a jazz pianist, composer and producer who also scores for films and television was on a personal hot streak at the time, and this album was/is one of his best efforts...sure,the cover art is distracting,Grusin in a cowboy hat looking for all the world like a gay cowpoke, but the music is among the best of it's kind...especially the title track..Grusin,who has since abandoned smooth jazz and fusion in order to concentrate on rather sappy big band efforts and mediocore tributes to suchlike as Duke Ellington, put out two or three other excellent smooth jazz efforts at about the same time, along with a few live efforts.."One of a Kind",another great recording, features the late Grover Washington,While"Harlequin" has Lee Ritenour ,Ivan Lins, and a host of others..If you are feeling really experimental, check out Grusin's all-time best soundtrack score,"Three days of the Condor",which features,as a main theme, the much-recorded track"Condor".." OUTSTANDING sound quality... 20to20K | Maryland | 04/27/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "Usually I don't write reviews in response to seeing other reviews...but seeing the most recent review (from 2003 mind you) associate this STELLAR CD with poor sound quality was more than I could stand. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion...but I'm a sound engineer and this recording is LEGENDARY for it's detailed sound quality and unique 2 track mixing technique from a live studio master. You can say you hate this music all you like since that's an opinion but I would hate for some unsuspecting person to not by this CD because of it's sound quality. Its one of the first CD's I grab when I'm demo'ing new speakers. BTW... for this fare of lite pop jazz (which is usually not my cup of tea) this CD really shines. You can really feel the cohesiveness of this band like they have played together for years. All top flight musicians in their prime. The rhythem section of Harvey Mason (on drums) and Marcus Miller (on bass) set a tight groove that engages throughout and Grusin plays with energy a few notches above his typical tv show, jingle-like melodies. This clearly isn't REAL jazz...but it's pretty good "Stuff" nonetheless." One of my all time favorites Midwest Fan | Midwest United States | 09/26/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "I am a big Dave Grusin fan and enjoy the range of his musical talents. I bought the original album back in 79 and was happy to get a download version. This song has been calming and enjoyable for decades. Highly recommend this selection."
