(5 out of 5 stars)

"Dave Wilson is acknowledged in the music world as one of the finest sax players around. He can make his instrument (both tenor and soprano saxophone) sail the heights of expression, and he can drive rhythms seemingly giving the impetus to his colleagues to follow. In addition to writing seven of the songs presented on this album, he arranged the remaining four. His artistic stamp is evident.

But on to this album. Wilson has selected the members of his quartet with the same eye to polished precision of technique and ability to improvise he demands of himself. Phil Markowitz is at the keyboard, a gentleman with past credentials to burn as an important player in the jazz world. Tony Marino is the talented bassist, also a man who haw traveled the boards of jazz groups across the country. And at drums is Adam Nussbaum who has worked with many of the greats including Stan Getz. This group listens well, is sensitive to the spaces Wilson leaves in his arrangements for solo spins, and yet seems to inherently understand balance and forward momentum.

This is an album full of riches played by men who know what they are doing. The fact that the material they perform is so solid in composition adds to the mesmerizing effect of just kicking back an soaking up professionalism. Grady Harp, August 10"
