Better than the original--

"I like the original Tin Machine version. But this slower, more saturnine cut has greater impact, mostly due to the fact that the vocals aren't drowned out by the instruments. In the Tin Machine version I always thought David was singing "I can't reach it." In the re-recorded track you can clearly hear him singing "I can't read sh!+." WORLD of difference. For anyone who's interested, you can find this track on the ICE STORM soundtrack (excellent movie--see it)."
Interesting re-working

"This single contains the re-worked version of the very odd song that David recorded with Tin Machine in 1989. It's an acoustic version. I think that the lyrics in "I Can't Read" are pretty good, but the music is weird. "This is Not America" is a song that David recorded in 1985 (?). It's better than "I Can't Read". I'd recommend this single to anyone who enjoys Tin Machine's version of "I Can't Read"."
