"I actually LIKE this album VERY much. Always have. It's a great followup to "Let's Dance" which is what it was supposed to be. One thing I really can't stand is folks who want Bowie to always sound exactly like he did in his Ziggy era. To all the naysayers all I can say is PLEASE stop trying to make Bowie into YOUR idea of him? The man is a musical artist who loves to PLAY with different musical styles, with words, with art. He loves to try on different hats, and frankly it's what he does best. He does whatever style makes HIM happy at any given time, whether that be the disco funk of the "Station to Station" or the R&B of "Young Americans."The trick with Bowie is NOT to judge each incarnation by another but to simply accept each one for what it is. To explore it, to go with it, and to simply enjoy the ride... The "Tonight" album grows on you if you really bother to listen to it more than once. No, it's not "Lodger, Low or Heroes, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars or even Never Let Me Down" for that matter. What it is, is the smooth blue flip side to the red be-bop of "Let's Dance." Bowie's mellow out after a year and a half of Serious Moonlight....It is a GOOD album, IMHO, one that still sits in MY CD player in regular rotation. I personally think "Loving the Alien" is sublime. I especially like the vocals on "God Only Knows" and the title duet with Tina Turner very much. "Blue Jean" always makes me smile. There's a lot to like here if you let yourself. For once, just forget being a critic, just kick back and enjoy the groove."
God only knows why this is so horribly underrated

"David Bowie is an artist with Class.whatever he makes he puts his own style in it and he's making it one of a kind.
"Let's dance" was a classic Pop album ,so is "Tonight".
There are some more rhytmical tracks with roaring bass ("Tumble and twirl","dancing with the big boys"), but whole album is more calm than "let's dance".The big hit from here is the title track - a charming reagge duo woth Tina Turner...
There's only one track simmilar to more typical bowie style - dark and mysterious "Loving an alien"
This is a dissapointing album for those Bowie fans that like more experimental periods in his career ("Low","Herous","earthling").But for all of you that like good eighties music and are apreciating other's work putted into this album to sound so good as it sounds will really like "Tonight". Enjoy!"
