Schubert and Liszt

"The Schubert Wanderer Fantasie and the Liszt Sonata are two large-scale solo piano works. Each has the power to inspire, excite and tell a story unique to each listener's experience. While I have a personal favorite recording of the Liszt sonata that still stands, this performance is a winner. Notable are its lyric sense, the power of the octave passages and the remarkable fugue section. Mr. Fray's interpretation of the Schubert is also very satisfying and I'm thrilled to hear it. David Fray truly succeeds with these two major works. This recording also holds a promise, disclosed by the stunning Schubert/Liszt song transcriptions (Du bist die Ruh and Der Doppleganger) -- some of the most beautiful playing I have heard in my life. This release represents artistry and intelligence from a young pianist with a limitless future."
