Synopsis

Album Description
2007 release. Born in Aachen, Germany, David Garrett was a prodigy violin soloist, who had reached and surpassed many an important milestone before his matriculation at Juliard in New York. The child of an American mother and a German father, David's interest in violin began at the age of four, when his older brother received a violin from his father -- who himself was a antique stringed instrument dealer. A year later, David had already won a competition, and by seven was playing in public as often as possible. Within five more years, David had gone on to play with an orchestra (playing Mozart) and at the age of ten made his concert debut. As his teenage years dawned, David had already released two albums, and appeared on television. This kind of talent was quickly picked up by Deutsche Grammophone, who offered him and signed a contract with him at the age of 14. He graduated Juliard in New York in 2004, after having been a student with Itzhak Perlman. He played with many of the world's orchestras, and in 2007 he played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom David toured the United States in 2008.

CD Reviews

Bravo!
Reshma | London, UK | 12/10/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am a classical music newbie but I was simply blown away by this CD. The sound of the violin is so pure and yet so warm (not surprising considering that the violin David plays is a £4.5 million 1718 Stradivarius), so heart wrenching and some of the melodies are really haunting, especially serenade and Eliza's song. I bought this CD after hearing David at a live performance at the Royal Albert Hall and have been captivated since. I listen to this CD everyday. My favourite is Toccata, a crossover between rock and violin. You can definitely sense the rebel streak in David. The flight of the bumble bee is just wow. My only regret is that the tracks are so short, I just cant get enough I guess. So bravo, and I cannot wait for the next CD 'Viruoso' to come out in the UK."
Tears to my eyes

"Garrett's work is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. Not much else to say except that if you like stringed music (violin, viola, etc.),you need to add this to your collection."
