A Most Important Collection
Daniel C. Hall | San Francisco, CA USA | 02/10/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When one looks at the era from which Pink Floyd sprang, my era musically, it's hard to define the niche occupied by this seminal group. They were above all, a live group, with monster PA systems and on stage special effects that even today's producers are hard pressed to duplicate let alone equal. They were a show band, always socially aware, due in part to the lyrics of Roger Waters (not part of this album) but also musically innovative in ways that are subtle and not always recognized by critics of this newest generation. Their finest album, (arguably, Gilmour thinks so) "Dark Side of the Moon" became the largest selling album of all time until eclipsed by Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I suspect and hope that as time goes by, "Dark Side" will reclaim it's number one status. It was and is a bit of work that appeals to every music lover who comes to that age where peer pressure gives way to personal taste and discrimination.

This album will stand along side of "Dark Side" like a book end; a career statement. Gilmour, Wright, and Mason with friends Dick Parry and others have set the capstone on the work of this group. Wright is now, sadly, gone too. Following Syd Barret by a couple of years. Roger is off doing his thing. Too bad he didn't have just a touch of Richard's personality. There's no telling where this extraordinary ensemble might have gone. Still my favorite group from my youth, and this album, is a must for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, Nick Mason fans. A must have album for any music lover. Get it! You won't be disappointed"
David Gilmour's mature music

"I've been a Floyd fan for years and I have all records and most videos and books. What I felt wonderful about the Floyd when I was 12, was the expression of Gilmour's guitars. Later, I digested the lyrics and the concept of each record as a whole. David Gilmour's music is today as mature as a good wine stored in a cellar and you decide to open it. It's big, round, silky, full and lasting. DVD's are just great and the CD's collect excellent versions of the tour highlights. It's incredible that almost the same material is present in the David Gilmour Live at the Royal Albert Hall, and they sound and look different. It's good to have them both."
