A sonic gem of rich melodies and deep emotion...(and yes, it

"Life in Slow Motion, David Gray's seventh album, is a rich, emotional gem that far surpasses the melancholy New Day at Midnight. The album is sonically rich, layered with orchestral touches, actual drums, and a tight backing band that includes an amazing cello player. Dual disc format offers a 5.1 mix and a small interview type piece on the making of the album, but dual disc tends to appeal to the serious audiophile or fan and is more expensive. Most would be well served with the normal version.
Top Tracks: Alibi is a gentle, lush, and melodic piano-based song that serves well as an opener. The One I Love, Lately, Nos Da Cariad are all solid songs, with deep lyrics that require several listens. Ain't No Love is a slow tempo piano-based ballad that is simply beautiful. Hospital Food is a great Caroline-type song, offbeat lyrics with an upbeat melody which doesnt quite mesh with the rest of the album. Disappearing World starts slow but builds to a shimmering climax.
Production values and overall sound are far superior than his earlier work, reflecting David's recording in a real studio with a producer. This album is a must for any David Gray fan, and an emotional gem that will likely bring him both commercial and critical success.
Note: The album is copy protected, like almost every album that is released today, which really irks people who want to rip tracks to an Ipod compatible format. I download my albums on Itunes, and therby eliminate that problem. To each their own I guess. Be forewarned, however, that it is the record labels that are pushing this technology. The artist unfortunately has no legal right to restrict the CD format the label uses. Don't be mad at the artists, be mad at the labels.

A Great Addition to Your Album Collection

"Life In Slow Motion has everything a great album needs. It has upbeat songs such as Hospital Food and The One I Love, the latter of which will make you think, "This sounds great! Have I heard this before?" Life In Slow Motion also has slower songs that you can relate to when you are down; my favorite being Slow Motion.
Do not expect another White Ladder, as Life In Slow Motion has a very different sound.
The DVD side of the DualDisc contains a very neat lyric book. The lyric book's pages flip automatically as you listen to the album. The documentary is a great addition. I was surprised at how well David Gray performed in the studio and practice sessions. The quality of his voice is identical to the album. David Gray is a very talented performer.
Be aware that the CD side of the DualDisc will not play on some CD players. It plays fine on my computer running Windows XP but will not play on my 1996 Subaru car stereo.
Overall, Life In Slow Motion is a great album. You won't be disappointed."
David Gray never ceases to amaze.

"I just wanted to post, because it looks like the other reviewer was more upset about it not working on his computer then the actual cd, although he said it was a great album. The only song I don't really care for is track 6 I'm particularly partial to the first five songs, but the whole album is really good."
A New Level of Perfection !!

"For some who already know of David Gray this is an album that takes some getting use to. When my wife and I first listened to it it took us by surprise. We,like most are use to most David Gray songs being driven by his voice and a strong guitar. This album however has much more to added to it. Why shouldn't it? He has said himself that he is no longer the "underdog" but the "overdog" so he should start acting like it:) He has bought Church Studios and has a new producer to help him. Any one who has heard him live knows he is always working on past songs to make the most out of them. On this album he has taken some time off (3 years) and taken his time adding new levels to his song layouts and production. This is an album that was mostly written and performed on piano. We ended up listening to it twice in a row. The first time we didn't expect such a big production so the second time was to enjoy it now that we knew what to expect. I have found out that a lot of these songs were written to be used as a movie soundtrack and it sounds like that was the intent. From it's gradual introductions to it's slow tempo through most of the album it has a definite emotional theme that takes you on a soulful journey. Some have complained that this album is "too slow" and it may be compaired to his other albums but that should only bother those who haven't taken the time to listen to his words and beautiful melodies and accept this as it's own album full of his usual passion and power. After the first listen you will have each haunting and fun song stuck in your head. After getting all the singles for the wonderful bonus B-sides I'm convinced this should have been a double album.
The bonus DVD side has a wonderful "behind the scenes" video of Gray and his drummer Clune working on the album and Gray talking about what made him write certain songs. I love stuff like this. It shows the creation of the songs I cerish and lets us see Grays thinking and creative process. I only pray all his albums have features like this on them from now on. In todays world where there is so much room on discs why shouldn't they. I hope this helped:)"
A beautiful, beautiful pop masterpiece.

"Even White Ladder's the best work yet from David Gray, this CD gives something else: planning. What? Plannig? Yes... White Ladder was the last chance for Mr Gray to continue in the music bussiness and eventually it would be his best selling album. But here, you don't feel presion, hurry or even a simple mod. Everything here is where it has to be. Mr. Gray is a talented man and you can notice he planned everything in detail. He was so precise that you have to use hearphones to notice some details on his music and vocals (that's not a problem for me but maybe some people could think it is... besides if you use a Home Theather you'll notice everything). You have to listen this work several times to get it but when you do, you get an incredible experience. Don't waste your time thinking that Gray has left his talent behind... here is the proof you need to know that the better is yet to come. BTW... this edition DOES NOT offers 5.1 sound. Only PCM so you might want to consider your buying for the regular edition. If you are not an English speaker, you'll find this edition useful since the lyrics appears on screen while you listen to the music. I love that!"
