Synopsis
Product Description David s landmark tenth CD, Adoration: Solo Piano Hymns, contains David's beautiful renditions of fifteen favorite hymns, including Be Still My Soul, Just As I Am, How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace. A Note from the Artist... What does it mean to adore God? The American Heritage Dictionary defines the phrase to adore as to regard with a deep, often rapturous love. That very well describes how I feel about my Lord Jesus. I am in awe of him in every way, not only because of his continuous, overflowing blessings on my life, but simply because of who he is; he is the one... ...In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 1 Colossians 1:14-17 Without Jesus, we are lost. We strive alone and in the darkness. We suffer for nothing. With Jesus, we have purpose. We walk in the light and when we suffer, it s for his glory. I adore my Lord Jesus because he saved me, both from spiritual death and from hopelessness. His love for me has overcome all my failings. For that, I cherish him, and I want every moment of my life to give praise to him. I think the writers of the hymns understood what it meant to adore God. Just read through the lyrics in your hymnal sometime. The hymns are more than just music; they are poetry, instruction, encouragement, wisdom, exhortation and precious letters of love. They are songs of repentance, songs of victory and songs of praise. They reflect the light of God s Word, and remind us to take our eyes off ourselves and put them on Jesus where they belong. When I read them, I am moved, and when I sing them, my soul is stirred. What a joy it has been to work on these arrangements, to wrap my heart and hands around these melodies that have praised God for generations. I hope that in some small way, this album helps keep these songs alive and present in the hearts of modern worshippers around the world. Look up, always look up, and give him praise. In the darkness, give him praise. Through joy or suffering, give him praise. Never cease to praise him. Yes, I adore Him... and often with a deep, rapturous love. David Nevue September 2007 |
CD ReviewsBeautiful piano solos for fans of spiritual and new age musi Monica J. Kern | Lexington, KY United States | 07/25/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is one of David Nevue's strongest albums to date. I am primarily a fan of contemporary solo piano music (aka new age), and I had much less familiarity with hymns, so I was not sure what to expect from this album. I was thus delighted to discover that the arrangements on this album are absolutely lovely and should please fans of both spiritual music as well as new age fans. All the tracks are strong, so it is hard for me to pick favorites, but if forced I'd nominate "Fairest Lord Jesus," "Doxology," "Just as I am," "Be Still My Soul," and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." Nevue's arrangements add his signature style to traditional songs to create a unique blend of refreshing rhythms and counterpoints. He also does not make the mistake of confusing "complicated and showy" with "better." Take, for example, his arrangement of "Amazing Grace," which is about as spare and simple as a piano solo can possibly be, consisting almost exclusively of single notes in the melody and bass lines. But Nevue has arranged it in a way that is hauntingly beautiful and leaves you with chills down your spine. As with Nevue's other albums, one of the appealing features of his music is that he has made exact transcriptions of many of the pieces on this album available for purchase from his website, so if you are a pianist you can play them as arranged on the album. Trying to pick a favorite David Nevue album is sort of like trying to answer the question of which of your children is your favorite... you love them all, in different ways. I would probably say this is my second favorite album, after "Overcome," and I strongly recommend it. " Lovely adaptations of old favorites The Crystalline Entity | Pennsylvania | 04/16/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "I downloaded this album through iTunes for some relaxing Sunday morning music or to study by, since I can't read when I'm listening to music with lyrics. It wasn't long, however, before I started paying more attention to the lovely arrangements of these old hymns. The song selection on this album is fantastic, including some of my favorites: "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less," "Be Still My Soul," "Come Thou Fount," and "There Is A Fountain." The arrangements are fresh and inventive without distracting from the original melodies. Kudos to Mr. Nevue for respecting and reinventing the beautiful hymns of the faith." Simply beautiful! N. J. Rush | 02/03/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This cd has been a huge blessing to us. We keep it going in the car almost all the time. David has a simple way of expressing himself through his piano as he shares the beautiful and timeless melodies of the hymns. We highly recommend this title!!"
