CD ReviewsSublime and life changing Kenneth C. Herbst | Austin, TX United States | 02/15/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Everyone can list off a handful of albums that has changed the course of his or her life. Transformation is one of those profound moments for me. I first listened to Sancious in my early teens, a time when I stumbled upon many of the landmark works that have shaped my taste in music: King Crimson's Discipline, Brian Eno's Another Green World, among others. Transformation stands apart from the pack in its genius. It is one of the smartest works of jazz-rock exoticism in existence. Sancious's musicality isn't bound up in sterile digital sequencing. His spirit isn't held back by his fingers. Almost orchestral in its scope, the music still emerges as both intimate and spontaneous. In my opinion this recording is one of the most immediate transfers of a musician's soul to tape that has ever been recorded. All home-studio enthusiasts, in my opinion, would do well to study Transformation and aspire to the organic "technology-less" sound that was captured. This album is a masterpiece. And it taught me how to listen to music in an entirely new way. It may sound like a cliché. But it is true for me, nonetheless!" Revolutionary at the time! GC | Houston, Texas | 01/02/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "David Sancious is one of the reasons why I followed jazz fusion music and certainly one of the reasons why I became a keyboard player. He and Josef Zawinal (Weather Report) along with Chick Corea (Return to Forever) were playing music that was revolutionary at the time. This particular album Transformation is without a doubt a classic for the genre. The quality of the recording as well as the musical talent level is outstanding. For anyone that is interested in listening to one of the best jazz fusion albums ever released this has to be in your collection. I highly recommend it."
