CD Reviews

Excellent!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I will follow you into the dark sounds utterly AMAZING on the wax! If you are wondering why people choose vinyl over CDs and mp3s is simple. In the track, Gibbard uses a Acoustic guitar (by taylor I think)and it is beautiful haha. Anyways, in the mp3 and music video and cd you hear the 5 melodic strings that he is playing, BUT if you listen to the vinyl recording (on proper equipment obviously) you can distinctly hear the sixth string as well. It juts out kind of like it is out of place because if you've ever heard the song without the string it seems so unnatural.

That's how Gibbard wanted it to sound! it is impossible to capture because that high string has a frequency that can barely be distinguished by digital samplers.

The vinyl has an overall deeper, warmer tone to all of the songs and it really shows when you listen to the tracks a second or third time (once the wax has had a run through to get accustomed to your needle). I recommend vinyl over any medium and this is yet another example of how it is better.

I know that vinyl can sometimes cost more than CDs but trust me if you have the means go for it. The more expensive vinyls (read: this one and all other DCfC vinyls) come with the cd in it as well so you can always rip that to your computer and make an mp3. Basically, the vinyl gives you all three. something you don't get from a CD!

Oh and protip! if you have a turntable and you can't hear a difference, try two things! a) make sure you are using a decent set of speakers. You'll only hear what the speakers play anyways. and b) make sure you have an up to date and high quality cartridge! cartridge's can cost a lot but just like tires, it's what comes in contact with the medium and hence is the most important part of your entire vinyl setup!"
