CD Reviews

Death In June
gavin o'neill | Oakland, CA USA | 12/02/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is hands down the best release Death In June have ever put out. This is a double disc of handpicked favorites spanning DIJs entire career. It includes Heaven Street and rare singles versions of most of the songs included. The only shame is the lack of liner notes, because some of these versions are quite rare and interesting. Regardless, this is as good as it gets for this band."
Excellent introduction to an amazing band

"Spanning the full career of Death in June from the band's founding in 1980 until the disc's November 1997 release, Disc Riminate was an anthology released to commemorate the band's first (and only, according to Douglas) North American tour. Some of the tracks were long out of print by then, some had only appeared in limited releases, some are remixes of earlier work. If you have all of Death in June's earlier material, you certainly don't need a copy of this, but given its exceptionally reasonable price, those who are missing the Black Whole of Love box set (and believe me, if you've got the money to buy it on the collector's market these days, you don't need this!) might want to pick this up solely to have the track which only appeared here and there, "Leopard Flowers." For those unfamiliar with the beauty of DiJ, however, this makes for a perfect introduction and an excellent smorgasbord from which to choose the releases you'll next want to pick up. Most of the then-rare material has since been re-released on CD, so you shouldn't have any problems finding what you're after. This one, though, is a must-have one way or the other, unless you own the full back catalogue."
I like it

"Although I am hardly an authority on DIJ, I really enjoy this compilation and would recommend it to others. Perhaps because it [DISCriminate] was how I was introduced to them? I can't really compare it to their other stuff, because I like everything I've ever heard from them. I especially love when Rose McDowall sings with them. ;) I wish that the version of "Break the Black Ice" that she sings were on this album instead."
