"For two albums, Deborah Holland served as the voice and songwriter for Animal Logic, an unusual pop trio also featuring former Police drummer Stewart Copeland and jazz bassist Stanley Clarke. The group never really got off the ground, however, and "Freudian Slip" was Deborah's first solo album. It could almost be considered "Animal Logic 2 1/2", for Copeland and Clarke both put in appearances on the album on a number of tracks.



The other tracks feature a fine assortment of backing musicians, and expand upon the familiar sound of Deborah's songs and singing style. My favorite tracks would be the catchy opener, "My Favorite Joe", the moody "House of Volunteers", and the slow but powerful "Dog and Pony Show". Deborah's lyrics are smart and I personally like her voice a lot, though I know it seems to generate a love it or hate it response in many people.



Overall this is a solid album of quality pop music, worth giving a try especially if you enjoyed her earlier work with Animal Logic."
