"I owned this recording in the 50's on vinyls and still, I think its the best.I was so glad to find it on CD format! This is a recording that must not be lost! The interpretations by Suzanne Danco, Pierre Mollet and Heinz Rehfuss are still outstanding and the playing of L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under Ansermet is an aural wonder. This opera is often referred to as a French Tristan. I think it goes much further than that in creating it own sound world and its own ambiance. Tristan and Pelleas are two totally different works that both demand our attention. Debussy had stretched our artistic, intellectual envelopes in this work and its a pleasure to make contact with that vibration again. I really think this recording is better that Karajan and Von Stade. It seems to speak more directly to the heart, and it evokes the pagan world of Mircea Eliade's THE SACRED AND THE PROFANE. Economically, it is a bargain for the quality of the perfomance."
