Dee Clark was previously a member of the Hambone Kids before joining up with The Goldentones, an R&B group who subsequently changed their name to the Kool Gents. It was in this latter guise that they were discovered and signed to Vee-Jay's subsidiary label Falcon/Abner in 1953. Four years later Dee Clark launched a solo career and scored hits with Just Keep It Up (which duly became his debut UK hit) and Hey Little Girl, both of which are featured on this album.
