"Go to Dee Daniel's web site and you'll discover that she describes herself as a "jazz singer" - and who am I to argue - she strikes me as a lady who knows her own mind. But put "Let's Talk Business" in your CD player and you'll discover something else: Ms Daniels is one heck of a blues singer! Oh yeah, I know, lots of jazz singers have one foot in the blues - but in "LTB," Ms Daniels is in the blues with both feet, right up to her vocal chords.



Ms Daniels has a wonderful voice - a big, brassy, two-in-the-morning, last-call-for-alcohol, kind'a voice. On "LTB" she brings that voice to an interesting mix of songs: A Jimmy Reed piece, a couple of Percy Mayfield songs, (including "Please Send Me Someone to Love"), Willie Nelson's "The Night Life," (which Ms Daniels owns by the time she's done with it), and half a dozen originals. The only misstep on the entire album is "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," (that's right, the song you sang in second grade - it doesn't sound any better here).



Ms Daniels gets excellent support from pianist Larry Fuller, the Clayton brothers on sax and bass, and Jeff Hamilton on drums.



The sonics are excellent: Ms Daniels' voice is clearly and cleanly presented and there's plenty of separation between the instruments.



"Let's Talk Business" is an outstanding effort from all concerned."
