CD ReviewsIt's one of the greatest ever.... Snow Flow | St. Cloud, MN | 01/26/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "This (along with Cannibal Ox's "The Cold Vein") is one of the best and most influential underground hip-hop albums ever. It's really hard to find, but if you see this selling for 20-25 dollars, buy it. It will change your life and the way you look at hip-hop. The songs on here are so well put together. The beats suit the music well, nothing really stands out, but it's not supposed to, it just sets the mood. Every single song on here is worth listening too. This is one skip-free album. The mc's are slug(atmosphere), dose-one(themselves), Sole, and Alias(now turned producer and part time lyricist). All of these guys bring something to the table that the others could not. The hardest part of this album(besides the concepts) is getting used to dose-one's voice. It took me almost a year to finnaly get into his high pitched, raspy voice. Don't let that discourage you however, one unique voice out of four only adds to the enjoyment. If your into hip-hop that makes you think and not about "gun's b*tches and weed" get this. You will not regret this purchase. Trust me." 3.5 actually Scott Signal | Minneapolis | 09/16/2007 (3 out of 5 stars) "I'd like to start off by stating that I am not only a Minneapolis resident, but a fan of "left of center" hip hop, so I am very partial to this type of work. There are so obvious warts displayed in the audio quality of the recording and maybe the lack of variation as far as the production is concerned, but that's really not the point of this work. If you're looking for something to bang while rolling down your street you really need to look elsewhere. Here the focus is the dynamic wordplay and overall interaction of four tremendously strong MCs sounding young and raw and throwing conventions out with the garbage. I'm a huge Atmosphere fan and I feel that this represents some of Slug's best work lyrically. Sole is great with his slippery, nimble flow and Alias despite what I've read in interviews comes across confident and intact. Dose is the MC who might require the most "getting used to" with his nasally, irregular flow but I think he adds a nice color to the songs that makes them stand out more. If you're down with type of stuff you should definitely give this one a shot" It deserves 5 stars people this is classic hip-hop!!! P. Smith | slc | 09/24/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "i dont have much to say other than this cd is a classic 5 star album not 3,don't let the last review fool you this $hit pounds has more bass than most albums do,sure the sound could be more crisp & clean like kanyegay west and 49 cent's new albums. this is raw underground true hip-hop here folks. Slug & Dose One are exact opposites thats what makes this album very unique & original,Did i mention this cd was originally put out in
1999 yet it sounds like it could of been 2008. So if you like mainstream crap then don't purchase ,if you like real hip-hop and are fans of...Copywrite,Eydea,Sage Francis, slug, atmosphere, aesop rock, brother ali,el-p,cage,ill bill, goretex, jedi mind tricks, dynospectrum, sole, dose one, alias, passage, deadbeats wich is the best hip hop duo you will never hear, deadbeats are by far the best and there from my town of sick lake city. So all you real hip hop kats buy this album now right here on www.amazon.com Thanks for letting me waste a few minutes of your life & mine PEACE TO ALL!!!" |
