"I have collected a rather large number of albums of female vocalists over the past 10+ years - American, British, Norwegian, French, Portuguese (Fado), Irish/Gaelic. I especially enjoy sopranos and Irish/Celtic music. Of all the singers I've listened to, Deirdre Shannon is one of the very best. Deirdre has the voice of an angel - her voice is warm, pure, genuine, and intimate - she seems to be singing directly to the individual listener. I enjoy every one of the 13 tracks on her album. "I Know My Love", "Gathering Mushrooms", and "Apron of Flowers" are fun songs. "Ardaigh Cuain", "One More Day", "Ae Fond Kiss", "She Moved Throught the Fair", "Lord Over You", and "I Don't Want to Talk About It" are very beautifully done - especially "Ae Fond Kiss". Deirdre is magnificent in "The Prayer", which she performs with Matthew Gilsenan - one of Ireland's most accomplished young tenors. And the last song, "Newborn" is short, but very tender. I give my highest recommendation for this album. [...]."

"And I am not kidding, kids! This lady, with the exception of Clannad's Maire Brennan, is the quintessential female voice of Ireland. She is not only a beautiful woman, but one who displays a gorgeous voice that one can only describe as a brandy-sugar roasted chestnut. Not given to operatic screeching like some of her Celtic woman peers, and not lackluster like some of the same, she has the ability to phrase a song with a combination of purity, simplicity, and class that is often missing in the most pretentious show that some of her rivals display.



Please do check out some of her best and variated tracks like the fun and very catchy "I Know My Love," an incredibly lovely version of the old classic war song "Danny Boy," and her stirring rendition of Rod Stewart's old hit "I Don't Want to Talk About it." Well, those are the faves of yours truly, but it's ALL good, and will addict you like a supremely heady and rich semi-sweet fruit wine.

"I'm a special events editor doing a series of articles on the Celtic movement in international entertainment. I discovered this delightful girl while researching my lead article on 'Celtic Woman'. We chatted and she graciously sent me the MP3 files of this, her debut album and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of her voice. I won't break it down song by song as the other reviewers have done an excellent job and I concur whole heartedly with their evaluations. This CD is wonderful listening regardless of your musical orientation, and if you find you've been caught up in the spirit of Celtic music it is a must have addition to any quality Celtic collection."
