"I wanted to like Remixed: The Definitive Collection. I'm a longtime fan of Delerium but should have realized that their slow slide to mediocrity hadn't changed course. I also should not have expected too much from a remix album but I was hoping. Well, it was not as I hoped. I had mine on pre-order with Amazon and was initially excited to get it the other day.
If you are a fan of the other Delerium remixes and dance music in general, then you have a good shot at enjoying Remixed. All the tracks are mixed so that they blend into one another, and the "trance" floor beats continue pretty much unabated throughout the whole album. Engineering and sound quality is quite good -- as it should be. The last track is strangely louder than the rest though.
Sadly, I found it to be rather dull. Some of the well know tracks are remixed to the point of not sounding much like the originals. I like the originals. That wouldn't be so bad though if the remixing had been more inspired. I don't feel it was. There was a lot of repetition and aspects of the songs that made them so good have been edited out. There are moments, even short stretches, that are good, but it quickly become dull again. In contrast, 2001's Odyssey-The Remix Collection is a much more engaging outing. It doesn't help that I don't care for the song Dust In Gravity, and two versions of it bookend the album.
While not terrible, I can't really recommend Remixed: TDC to anyone but hardcore fans of Delerium's more recent work, and perhaps to dance music lovers looking for some lullaby music. Leeb, Fulber, Peterson and Nash should get back in the studio and try and recapture that old magic with some new material."
