Synopsis
Product Description From the first chords of the slide guitars, "Howlin'" delivers the unmistakable sound of Delta Moon. This award-winning band has its own instantly recognizable style: swampy, southern-soaked, delta-billy roots music with an Americana soul feeling. After two changes in 2005 -- Kristin Markiton joining as vocalist and Phil Skipper plugging in on bass -- Delta Moon has honed its groove and come together as a tight unit. The band's focus and confidence show in the 9 original tracks and 2 well-chosen covers on "Howlin'." |
CD ReviewsMy new favorite band... Doug Wilson | 11/22/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I first discovered Delta Moon at the 2005 Columbia (SC) Blues festival. Unfortunately we arrived in the middle of their set but I was knocked out by what we did catch. Bought their latest release (Howlin') on the spot and have listened to it dozens of times since, without it becoming tired or stale. The band puts down some really funky lines and then overlays with gutty vocalizations. I've listened to some cuts from their earlier releases via their website, and I think the current female singer/songwriter, Kristin Markiton, has a little more of an edge to her voice than her predecessor and it combines with Tom Gray's gravelly voice for a blend that's gritty and enticing at the same time. I'm not sure if this is country, blues, rock, or some amazing amalgam of all of them, but whatever it is, it cooks." Just about the Finest Band around !!!!!!!!!! I. L. Baldwin | Horsham,England | 10/04/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "Having just had the priviledge of seeing DM several times recently during their annual UK tour, they are without a doubt the freshest and most innovative band around. It's fun all the way from the wonderful twin slide guitars of Tom Gray and Mark Johnstone to the incredible vocal range of Kristine Markiton, not forgetting the engine room of the band powered by Scott Callison and Phil Skipper. Tom Gray has described their music as Deltabilly Blues but that does not really do justice to the amazing musical hybrid they have created. Do yourself a favour and seek this CD out asap. You won't be disappointed." Unique Stranger | New Jersey USA | 11/27/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "I can't compare the Delta Moon style to anyone else currently playing. Kinda blues-rock crossed with country. Different singers, both male and female. "You Don't Have To Go" and "Tiltawhirl" are standout, well-crated, well-played tunes, among others. Worth a listen."
