The better DEODATO

"Back when I was dj'ing on the radio in Chicago in the 1970's, these DEODATO promotional albums came in the door of the radio station. They came in quick succession. First, PRELUDE, containing an irresistible version of Also Sprach Zarathustra, the 2001 space movie soundtrack. A really big hit, this was DEODATOS top seller. It crossed into the pop charts and made enough $$$ for the CTI label to experiment with a lot of music.
It's a nice piece of music, but the better DEODATO CTI release in my opinion is DEODATO 2, the one we are reviewing here. While it sounds a lot like PRELUDE and features almost all the same players, 2 has a great version of Rhapsody in Blue. This was one of the fist "pop" versions on the Gershwin classic and it sounds great. The album is just tighter and crisper, a great piece of music arranging that truly conveys the 1970's party scene the artists and their fans were living during that beautiful decade. MUST HAVE!
If anyone knows what became of DEODATO, let me know. Did he go back to Brazil?
