Review From Pop Culture Press- "Der Einziger Weg"

"I own some weird music. But nothing compares to the hypnotic, vaguely menacing offering from the Queen of Punk and the undisputed King of the Texas Chainsaw Massacres. I can't think of a more melancholy, guttural language that would suit La Harry's voice with any more love. Her voice envelops the language, caressing the harsh consonants into eager submission. The German version "Der Einziger Weg" ("The Only Way")has me reminiscing about an album I bought in 1979 of Kurt Weill's "Three Penny Opera" featuring Lotte Lenya. Never before had I heard the siren call of sexual destitution and corruption. Until now. "I am a Berliner when in your bedroom" reeks of Christopher Isherwood, Sally Bowles and the life of the caberet. This song is haunting and poignant and it demands a visceral response. Robert Jacks (AKA Leatherface) co-wrote the lyrics with La Harry and his velvet, subtle tenor is a great complement to her low alto timber. After all, life is a cabaret ol' chum. Come to the cabaret. (Blythe Christopher)"

"Debbie Harry and Robert Jacks (Leatherface)take us to a haubrau of a time gone by. Their Caberet like effort mixes Dietrich images against alot of cocktails. It's lounge, and if you do not get it your'e stupid. Post apocolyptic and postmodern, Miss Harry's influences once again relect the times and are years ahead. More please from this duo- conceptually hysterical; historically morose and earnestly captured. Relief from a digitally enhanced world insisting on ignoring its own present day Holocost. IT MATTERS"
Quiet, Beautiful Release

""Maria" hit numer one, "Nothing is Real But The Girl" is climbing up the charts, "Der Einziger Weg" (The only Way) was quietly released at the end of Febuary 1999 on the label Eco Disaster Music. Although a quiet release, known only to some of us die hard Debaholics! It actually reached number one on the amazon chart - another success for Debbie to add to her recent achievements!A duet between Deborah Harry and Robert Jacks (Leather Face from the film) the song is the theme song for the movie "Texas Chainsaw Massarce - The Next Generation" Robert Jacks plays one of the main roles in the movie. A soft, slow song Debbies voice is cool, sassy and rasps so dramatically around the lyrics. Violins and Strings a necessity the song is almost chilling in places. The lyrics conjure up a bizarre scene. Debbie sings in true Marlene Diertrich style - but it is so recognizably Debbie! She portrays a sleazy alcoholic chain smoking club singer, obsessed with sex as "the only way" for her to survive! - quite a similar character to Corey in Intamite Strangers. (Debbies featre film in 1992) One of Debbies more artisitic moments which can fall under the same light as the 1992 soundtrack "Prelude To A Kiss" definitely one for the collection! The CD features 4 tracks, the original with Debbie and Robert singing in German, the second song is the English translation which features Debie only, the third is the instrumental and the fourth is a dancey upbeat remix. The actual CD features some rare interesting home photographs of Debbie taken by Robert. She is portrayed on the cover wearing her hair up (its all brown) from the side smoking a cigarette. In the background there is a lampdshade a a picture showing a scene from the film. A definite collectable which will be a rarity I'm sure with in a few years! BUY IT! Review by Daniel Porter"
