Very good Pop/Rock from a great songwriter...

"Discipline is a very good album by song writer/doctor Desmond Child. I first remember seeing Child's name on KISS album credits when I was a kid and over the years he has written songs for, or with, KISS, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Cher and many others. Honestly, it's kind of scary to think of the number of hit singles he's had a hand in writing. This album is straight pop rock with songs ranging from power pop(The Price Of Loving You) to 60's sounding pop(Love On A Rooftop) to ballads(You're The Story Of My Life). The musicians who play on the album include Joan Jett, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, Kane Roberts, Butch Walker, Vivian Campbell, Steve Lukather and John McCurry(John Waite's band), as well as many others. So you can tell the playing on the album is very good and Child does a good job with the vocals. He's definitely not a monster singer, but he can handle the job.



Song Highlights include: The Price Of Loving You, I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend, Love On A Rooftop, You're The Story Of My Life, The Gift Of Life and A Ray Of Hope.



Discipline is simply a very good pop album with some very good songs. If you like any of the songs Child has written with other artists, you should like this album."

"He's had a hand in the writing/production of dozens of hit singles, so one would reasonably have high expectations of his solo album. He doesn't blow things away, but it's still a fine album of well-crafted pop-rock that did feature the minor hit "Love On A Rooftop." Personally, I think the best song is the catchy, radio-ready "The Price Of Loving You" which, despite not being a hit, was played a couple of times on major stations."
