"Devin The Dude is one of those rare rappers that actually possess the skill, charm, and wit to become a bonafide star in the hip hop game. However, he has yet to become a star. What he is though is an underground hero. He has released 4 albums to date and all are critically acclaimed and customer accepted. Devin is a master at telling stories (mainly about weed, liquor, and women) and on Landing Gear he may be at his finest.
Devin The Dude's style is so unique. He has to be the most laid back (read smoked out) rapper of all time. Every album has this hypnotic chill feel (read high) and this one is no different. As a matter of fact that may be the only complaint one could make about Devin The Dude is that he rarely switches his vibe (read doesn't blow his high). But it hardly matters because he's such a good rapper who tells storie in detail. Landing Gear may be Devin's best album and that would be quite an accomplishment given his track record of great albums. It's not really much to explain. Hip Hop is definitely at a high this year and for all you naysayers that don't believe well yall simply aint listening. At 12 tracks deep, the album never really officially lands but that's ok I'm fine flying by until the next album.
*By the way, this is the official new Devin The Dude album. There's another out today by the title HI LIFE but it's a RapALot release and he is no longer on that label. It's a lame way to try to stop Devin's success. That album is somewhat decent but this is the better album by far and this is all new material.*

Devin is THAT DUDE!

"Devin will go down in history as one of the finest rappers of our era. Very few rappers can make music that is as mellow, funky, and downright groovy. This album will fit very nicely in Devin's already stellar lineup of albums. As far as it being his best, I think that is taking it to far though. Devins original album "The Dude" is still my favorite album of his previous release.
BTW, make sure yall buy this album because this is Devin's first independent release on his own label! I for one cant wait for Devin to make more feel good music!"
Another solid album from the Dude

"Devin the Dude returns with his 5th (or 6th solo album, he had 2 albums come out the same day). This is his 3rd of 2008 (the other one he had come out today and his "Smoke Sessions" mixtape from the spring). Like all his albums, you know what you're getting, songs about girls, smoke, alcohol, and some funny lines. Shorter than his other albums, with only 12 songs, you have 1 classic, 1 almost classic, 4 ok songs, and the other 6 are good. Guests aren't too heavy, on 5 of the songs and doing the hook on 1 other one. Production is pretty good as well. Rockstar & C-Ray Sullivan each so 2 songs, Domo, Devin, Cozmo, Destrukshon, Decibels, Luster Baker, Chuck Heat, and Rob McQueen all do 1 song. A nice album to have from a consistent 4.5 or 4 star artist who has some of the funniest lines outside of DJ Quik, Too $hort, Akinyele, and Hi-C.
#1 - 9.5 (nice beat)

#11 - 7 (f/ 14K - Devin only does the hook)

Another great album from The Dude

"If you're tired of all the crap that has been going on lately in rap/hip-hop with all of these artists like Soulja Boy you should check out Devin's new album. It's refreshing to hear a rapper like Devin make music that doesn't try sound commercial or copied. His style is unique and this new album is mostly solid all the way through. I like his 4 previous albums a little bit more than this one, but Landing Gear is still a decent album. I recommend it if you like music like Too Short or Snoop Dogg."
