Full-Throttle Thrash (Neckbrace Required)!!

"I don't know if you've had the chance to hear this yet, but if not, do yourself a favour and find it! I had heard the band's earlier records, which had the occasional standout moment but didn't reinvent the metal wheel (but I have to go back and check them out again now). But this one, whew, really ripped my head clean off -- excellent production, guitar tones and riffs that will sound awfully familiar to Slayer fans (I could say The Haunted too, but they also copped most/all their riffs from Slayer, so that would just be redundant), a pretty talented drummer behind the kit, and some savage, flat-out thrash vocals. Don't like the annoying distortion added to Araya's voice on "God Hates Us All"? No fear, these are pure, unbridled, frothing vocals the way I love 'em. Songs like "Blueprints Of Hate" and "Life Ending Path" just slay, setting you up with half-speed breaks that gets the neck snapping like the breakdown part in "Angel Of Death" -- I won't say they bury Slayer like a lot of reviews have already mentioned, but let's just say it's great to know the old-school spirit is in new, and quite capable, hands. (Also be sure to check out their scorching version of "Apocalypse Inside" from mightily overlooked Canuck thrashers Sacrifice that appeared on their last album "Ill-Natured" for further proof of this) We need more bands like this ..."

Dew-Scented's classic

"With the worldwide release of Inwards on Nuclear Blast in 2002, Dew-Scented made sure that their breakthrough album was a statement of intent. Featuring their best songs and production to date, the album was received enthusiastically by 90% of the thrashers who heard it. The other 10% complained that the other 90% called it thrash when it really wasn't. To these people I wold say this: it is closer to thrash than any other genre. So there.



The album is chock full of memorable songs, fromt eh punishing one-two of "Bitter Conflict" and "Unconditional", the terrifically tight title track (not THAT'S alliteration!), the mechanic chug of "Locked In Motion", to the brutal closer, "Reprisal". At only 36 minutes, it's over in Reign In Blood fashion, but that's why it's so good.



Some personal memories of mine are synonymous with this album: walking home after some agonizing programming labs, this music was such a release for me. Also being one of my first `underground' discoveries, and one of the first (and best) metal bands I've seen live.



I would classify this as one of the three `modern Euro thrash' albums that everyone should own (purists be damned!), along with The Haunted's self-titled debut and Darkane's "Layers Of Lies".

"I listened to the samples and was blown away. I felt like a Vietnam vet with all the flashbacks I got of the 80's-early 90's metal scene. I can't wait to buy this disc. If you like your metal the way it should be (intense, brutal, fast and melodic, rhythmic and catchy at the same time), listen to the samples. Do not waste your time in this "nu-metal" or "nu-rock" crap that is polluting the airwaves today. Long live Slayer, Kreator, Destruction, Pantera, etc.. Long live Old-School and the 80's!!!"
