Fabulous Recording

"I have numerous recordings by Dex. I think he is wonderful. This recordings seems to have come from a forgotten tape. George Duke writes some notes on the album jacket about how he found the tape.
The performance is just about as good as anything I have heard Gordon play. It is live and has the spirit of a great live performance. The band plays great. The disc is full. The sound is big and very lively. George Duke's piano playing is so wonderful. In fact, the mainstream/bebop style jazz listener really lost a great deal when George Duke decided to play the electric/fusion/funk style of music. I find myself listening to this performance as much for George Duke as I do for Dex and Dex is one of my favorite tenor players.
There is one caveat with this record. I listen to this performance on headphones. It has a significant number of very small dropouts. I believe that the engineers appear to have done a great job fixing it up. It can be annoying when listeningt on headphones. On balance, I think that this recording is really worth having."
