"I got this box set the hard way-one CD at a time.
Once I bought one CD, I realized these recordings are among the best that Dexter recorded. I had to get the others. I listen to them time after time, and I never tire of them. Dexter has a chance to stretch out on long versions of timeless jazz standards. He plays majestically. Although I think "Go" is Dexter's masterpiece, this has to be second to "Go" as one of the essential record sets of jazz history.
I obtained "Body and Soul" and "Both Sides of Midnight" on the Black Lion Label, and "Take the A Train" on a remastered disc from the 1201 Label.
The rhythm section is a dream team of European expatriate Kenny Drew, great drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath and 20 year old bass phenomenon Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson. Can they swing!
Get this box set, or if you can find the individual CD's in the cut-out bin, grab them fast. This is the real deal!"
