"Another must have album is Dexter's "Our Man In Amsterdam", a fabulous seven track performance of creative compositions including many great jazz standards. One of the best performers in jazz history ~ this album was recorded at the Paradiso in Amsterdam on Feb. 5. 1969 with other musicians in attendance ~ on piano Cees Singer, on bass Jacques Schols, on drums Han Bennink and of course our tenor saxophonist extraordinaire Dexter Gordon.Stand outs for my tastes are ~ "WHAT'S NEW", spontaneously deep emotion comes to the surface ~ "JUNIOR", if it's blues you dig, this one has your name on it. However, it is so good that it's difficult to tell where the tune ends and the improv begins. Varese Records has undertaken a major project putting this album together ~ the listener is completely engulfed within the great versions inclusive with each selection. This is jazz at its finest hour and you're in for a gig you can dig. Total Time: 79:09 on 7 Tracks ~ Varese Records 302-061-292-2 ~ (4/15/2003)"
