Synopsis

Product Description
This CD, You Called Another?s Name, is unusual in several respects. For one, it?s the first venture into Adult Contemporary music by jazz singer Diane Witherspoon. Second---and quite unusual---all words and music were written by one person, Bill ?Doc? Webster. Third, after a brief career in music playing with several name bands, ?Doc? spent most of his professional life as an educator. Doc makes no apologies for his intent; his CD seeks to present danceable, easy-to-understand music and lyrics to the "thirty-something and up" crowd, those who still enjoy "pop-rock" and R&B music. When asked about writing both words and music, Doc said that he once wrote a novel, One by One (Doubleday, 1972), and he learned that successful novels, poems and songs capitalize on the fact that humans are emotionally more alike than different. He explained: ?Take the song You Called Another?s Name. Lovers, especially those in new relationships, frequently make the mistake of calling the wrong name--and most of us wince when we hear of it. Why? Because we imagine it happening to us and then identify with the ?hurt? person! It?s the same with the tune Whatever. Most people identify with one who gets exasperated with the lover?s overuse of the cliché ?whatever? that hurts because it feels like dismissal. Events like these happen daily to thousands, even millions of people. So?I learned that writing both music and words together makes it easier to capture those experiences common to so many.?
