Synopsis

Album Description
Who could ask for a bigger slice of instant summer than this scorching session from surf music maestro Dick Dale?! Summer Surf, Dale's superb 1964 collection, is just the ticket for chasing those wintertime blues, as the man who single-handedly invented the genre cuts loose with what he does best. Whether it's the high-stakes excitement of "Glory Wave," the wacky hand-jive of "Mama's Gone Surfin'" or the raging glory of "Tidal Wave," the sand, the sun and the waves will always be with you if the sound of Dick Dale is close at hand!

CD Reviews

One of Dick Dale's Best
Jazz Hermit | Tucson, AZ United States | 01/04/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Dick Dale is a founding father of Surf music and this 1964 album demonstrates just how much this music had matured in a few short years. The title track is my favorite, a beautiful piece of Surf music with a very complex guitar sound. It's truly a study in good taste, reverb and tremolo.

The rest of the album is likewise solid Surf music and in my opinion represents the genre at the apex of its first wave, just before the Beatles changed the musical landscape. Dale's blending of Rock & Roll and Spanish musical influences truly makes for a fine listening experience.

Forty five years later Dick Dale is still a force to be reckoned with. He has beaten cancer twice, lived a life filled with music, family, friends, big cats (Lions, Tigers etc.) and he's still going strong. He's well worth listening to."
