"this pianist had few peers. lots of Monk and Powell. with
no imitation. mood changes every few bars. extreme expression
more than third stream. swings hard and atonal, but it takes
only a few notes and space to get into his lyricism -
Bess You is my Woman Now (check out the coda ending)."

"THIS ALBUM SHOWS DT'S INTENSE ORIGINALITY, E.G. IN "CRUTCH FOR A CRAB".
AS WITH MONK, WE HAVE A HIGHLY UNORTHODOX APPROACH WHICH, AT FIRST,
SOUNDS LIKE A CHILD BANGING ON PIANO KEYS, BUT WHEN THE COMPOSITON
TERMINATES, A POWERFUL MUSICAL TREASURE HAS EMERGED."
