My favorite early Die Form album...

"This might be my favorite album from Die Form's early years, that is, their pre-CONFESSIONS years. For me, CONFESSIONS was where their blend of industrial/trance/gothic music really began to gel. Before that, their work could be spotty, ranging from the brutal experimental soundscapes of SOME EXPERIENCES WITH SHOCK to the almost disco-sounding POUPEE MECANIQUE and trancey CORPUS DELICTI.
PHOTOGRAMMES does a good job of creating a balance between the intense noise of the early work and the smoother, female-vocal dominated music of POUPEE and CORPUS. Production values are strong, with a good dynamic range. Stand-out tracks include "Will You Live Again?" "Long-Term Survivor," and "Experiment With Tears."
If you are only familiar with DF's more techno-inspired work, this may take some getting used to, as it is definitely an industrial album, with a harder, more minimalist edge to it. But I think this is some of DF's most mature and interesting music (once again, speaking from a pre-CONFESSIONS standpoint).
Overall, a solid album, and an excellent bridge between the harsh experimentalism of DF's past and the lush techno-goth that would be their future."
