Koopman Beats the Competition

"Ton Koopman's traversal of the complete works (opera omnia) of Dieterich Buxtehude gets better with every installment. This disc is the ninth in the series and the fourth volume of organ works. It is played on a 17th century three-manual organ in meantone tuning in the village of Basedow in northern Germany, not far from Buxtehude's base in Lubeck. Koopman has again chosen a varied program of freely composed preludes, fugues in the Italian canzona manner, and chorale preludes. The performances are bright and lively, and the recording vividly captures the ambience of the church. In a crowded field, Koopman is definitely the best.
Note: Organ Works 5 (Opera Omnia X) can now be ordered on-line from Challenge Classics. It is also available for download Organ Works V - Buxtehude: Opera Omnia X."
