"I bought this CD as a guide while preparing the Brahms Four Serious Songs for a recital. Many great singers can create that childlike wish to sound like them in a singer's heart, even at higher stages in your career or maturity as an individual, with their display of excellence, artistry and professionalism. Fischer-Dieskau doesn't for me. He simply creates art and artistry that floors you and excites you too much to get caught up in that. His individuality and professionalism is so high and so expressive in his singing that you have no choice but to appreciate him without thinking of yourself...unless you are so inspired by something he has sung to sing it--not yourself and any transcendent insecurities--yourself afterwards. This is a CD made for the real purist fans of lieder and the master singer, or for singers--students or professionals--who are learning the music. Anyone else would also enjoy the work, but those in this particular category will be greatly nourished."
