CD Reviews

Not original Duke, but still great...
08/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"True, this was recorded after Duke passed, but it is still a great recording. Although I like the entire CD, I'd buy it just to listen to "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me." This is an all around classic take on a classic song. Barry Lee Hall (who has been a member of the Elligton Orchestra since before Duke passed) and Clark Terry play this together and it is absolutely unbelievable. It was actually used in the movie "The Famous Baker Brothers." Take it from a jazz trumpeter, this is a great recording worthy every jazz lover's CD rack."
Wonderful Version of an American Original

"I have a layman's knowledge of music and I am far from an aficionado of jazz. But I consider Duke Ellington to be an original contribution to music. This CD is a collection of some of Duke Ellington's most famous work. These are not Ellington recordings but the band played with a love for his music. The sound is clear and sharp.I bought this CD when it was first released and I have listened to it over and over and over. All the tracks are good. An excellent buy for anyone curious about Duke Ellington or someone who knows his music well."

"While taking a jazz appreciation class in college, I went out and bought this CD. That was 3 years ago, and I have enjoy the music of this CD ever since. The energy in the music is completely infectious."
