CD Reviews
Great injustice to Dionne Warwick!

"Being a very late collector of the wonderful and terribly underrated Dionne Warwick, I missed buying many of her wonderful albums released on CDs in particular all her Warner Brothers albums and some of the early Arista releases. When I saw the tracking listing on this CD, I jumped at the purchase simply because it has almost all of the rare tracks from her unreleased (on CD) Warner album - JUST BEING MYSELF. Big, big mistake! Almost all the songs are altered here with cheap synthesisers in a weak attempt to "modernise" her earlier works. Her voice is almost drowned by the terrible arrangements by Goodness Know Who). Why on earth would you layer over these early works where Burt Bacharch and Hal David's immaculate production and the wonderful interpretation by Dionne makes all her early work at Scepter and Warner so special. Packaging is terrible, no track information of writers, producers, whatever. All the original songs on this CD were actually very very good. But here someone just did a great injustice to Ms Warwick. If you want good compilation of Dionne's work, get the recent THE VERY BEST OF DIONNE WARWICK - which features her early work of Burt/David at Scepter records. For more recent 80s music, go for her GREATEST HITS 1979 - 1990. For a flavour of 60s to 80s music go for her wonderfully mastered Arista DEFINITIVE COLLECTION. These 3 albums are enough for anyone who want good quality sound and first rate music. And if you want new arrangements of her early 60s works, go for her DIONNE SINGS DIONNE 1 & 2. These 2 CDs are really hidden gems. As for this CD, AVOID!!"

"Don't be deceived by the professional looking cover and artwork; this CD is horrible. Something has been done to the original versions and they obviously sound different from what you or I would have heard. Then there are the other unknown songs (remember that the title of the CD is "Most Famous Hits") that are littered here and there, then there is the sound quality that leaves a lot to be desired and then, there are some of the songs that have obviously been selected from a live performance. Heard enough?"
AVOID!

"Not only have they layered cheezy, low-budget synths over the tracks, they've done an unimaginably terrible job of it. It sounds as if the synth was playing in one room and the original recording was playing in another - and a warped vinyl copy at that. This was someone's bad idea of a joke. Do not pay anything for this.... Burt needs to sue somebody."

"I bought this cd becuz I am a fan of Miss Warwick. I own 98% of her recordings......I was uninterested in the standard compilation songs (ie Don't Make Me Over, Walk On By....etc)When I saw the track listing for "You Are A Song", "The Need To Be", "You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me", "Loving You Is Like An Old Habit" and the surprise "In Between The Heartaches"....I just knew that these were from the rare Warner Brother Sessions that I had heard so much about in the past. Apparently, Warner Brothers paid Dionne A LOT OF MONEY to sign a contract with them in the 70's and she did. Unfortunetly, once she was signed, they had a difficult time "marketing her". Their plans for her were not as successful as they would have liked and so they decided they would have her sing all sorts of songs....some of which NEVER made it onto an album or single. I have alread found gems like "Don't Ever Say I Didn't Tell you So", "He's Not For You" and "I Didn't Mean To Love You" on various music downloading sites. NOW, I HAVE MORE TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION!!!!Those of us who follow and adore Ms. Warwick for her musical achievements will be thrilled to have these "RARE TRACKS". The other "mess" is not worth the mention."
