IF THERE WERE MORE THAN 5 STARS, THIS ONE DESERVES THEM ALL

"I have been waiting for this disc for months, and am glad it is finally here. First of all, Rhino/Warners have done a superb job with the sound, as with their others in the LOVE SONGS series (Dusty Springfield's is equally superb soundwise). David Nathan's liner notes and tracks used are absolutely the best, making this the very ultimate Dionne reissue CD to date. After so many rehashes of the same old hits, this is such a fresh piece chock full of goodies! The version of HERE WHERE THERE IS LOVE sounds different to me, but I haven't listened to my vinyl in years. I don't remember an instrumental break with high-background vocal in the middle before. Still, that could be me! DREAM SWEET DREAMER is the ultimate find, as it was an obscure B-side never issued in stereo or on an album. THE WINE IS YOUNG is a pleasant surprise, as is the choice of material from the Warner years. LOVE SONG was always a favorite, and I DIDN'T MEAN TO LOVE YOU (in its 5:50 full version) should please many a fan who have been trying to find this single from 1976. The rarity for this track now remains the edited 4:00+ version. I look forward to more Dionne releases like this. Definitely, the most treasured issue right now. DON'T PASS IT UP!"
It just doesn't get any better than Dionne in her heyday.

"This collection has the usual perfunctory hits ("You'll Never Get To heaven," "I Say A Little Prayer"), but thankfully they're limited to just two. MOST of these songs have never been released on CD, including some of her 70's work for Warner Brothers. Dionne is classy "champagne soul" all the way, perfect for either a romantic evening or just winding down. Her voice was truly a marvel at the time of these recordings, able to wrap around notes and jump from one to another with ease. (She has since lost some of that ability, but I think we ALL lose something with the passage of 10, 20 or 30 years -- don't you agree?)My personal favorite: "I Didn't Mean To Love You." I love to hear professional singers that are, like Dionne, known for their control and poise, "let loose" and forget they're in a studio. You've never heard Dionne on a RECORDING like this; you can tell she really felt this one! Now if they would just reissue her 1981 Arista "Hot! Live and Otherwise" album, we'd all be some happy campers...If you are looking for something beyond the endless greatest hits packages of Dionne's work, this will serve as a splendid collection of some her most beautiful music that never charted. If you do not like the classic Dionne sound, you probably shouldn't buy this CD...but buy it anyway; you may be genuinely surprised. Enjoy..."
What else but five stars for the Queen of POP!!

"I just got this cd yesterday, and I have listened to the entire thing at least 10 times!! Great mixture of 60's and 70's songs from the great vocalist. Many fans will find a few surprises from the 70's cuts (from the Warner years). Dionne work doing this time had a little more R&B flavor: in particular is the final cut "I Didn't Mean To Love You", Dionne shows a raw, emotional vocal style. Unlike much of her studio work which is technical and flawless in contect. If one has seen her live, you know that at times the elegant vocalist will let loose at some point in the show, allowing her strong gospel voice to blow the roof off of the building. Very few times has she ever let go in the studio like this, well Dionne lets loose on "I Didn't..." tearing at every hair on your body, protraying a women who is at the end of her rope in a relation and can not take it anymore, great stuff indeed!! Other great cuts are "Sure Thing", "Whoever you are I love you" , and the classic "I Say A Little Prayer" pure Dionne, but with a lots of new twists. Dionne again shows that she can master any style of music if given the opportunity. Great Surpise indeed!!! Strong buy recommendation...trust me you will love it!!!!! P.S. I love reading the linear notes by David Nathan, he is always informative...he is a great soul man!"
